Evolution of websites in 20th century
Twentieth century marked a significant advancement in the technological field .After the invention of the computers; attempts were made to create a network between them. This finally led to the invention of the World Wide Web. This led to a new technological revolution in all the major countries including Australia. The evolution of the websites can be summarized as below.
Birth of the Internet
In October 26, 1969, the first message was sent by Steve Crocker and his team of researchers. This could be marked as the birth of the internet.
Launching the First Website
In August 1991, a basic website was launched that gave the information regarding the www.project and was shared only among the employees of CERN.
More number of websites
In 1994, more number of websites started flourishing and the mid of 1994 saw almost 2738 websites. By the end of 1994, almost 10,000 websites were created.
HTML based first generation websites
The first generation websites were created using HTML and had a lot of restrictions. They had limited colors and graphics and loaded with a lot of heavy text. But during the period 1995-1996, Angelfire and Geocities were launched and this helped the people to make their own websites. Java script, Flash, CSS and HTML 5 were used in the fourth generation websites. They were based on the browsers like Chrome, Firefox and Safari.
The past twenty years have seen a rapid improvement in the quality and functionality of the websites. Modern Websites are more interactive, multi-faceted and robust. Today’s web services have become mobile device friendly as most of them are accessed using tablets and smart phones from remote locations. In the past eight years, website designs have drastically evolved. Initially a lot of tables, flash and 3d animations were used in the websites which created a messy outlook for the site. But today the websites have a rich and minimalistic look.
The functionality of the websites has also increased making them more interactive and user friendly. Online shopping, online chat service and online customer care are something most customers prefer these days. As mentioned earlier, mobile responsiveness is also an important feature of today’s websites.
Recent years have also witnessed many companies giving specific information to their audience according to their past interactions, type of the device use and few other criteria. This is termed as website personalization. Companies like Netflix have proved that website personalization is something very beneficial for them and their customers alike.
Social networking sites are also gaining immense popularity these days. Their reach is widening day by day and these web sites definitely have booked their place in the future of mankind.
More and more websites are developing every day and the currently existing websites are renovated in Australia. Websites have taken over most of the businesses. Businesses who have not started their own websites have suffered huge losses. Digital marketing and e –commerce are the current trends.
Websites have improved their design, functionality, personalization and mobile responsiveness over these years.
